Simple salt dough recipe..
- 1 cup salt
- 2 cups plain flour
- 1 cup warm water
I usually mix the salt and flour first and then gradually add the water, using my hands to knead it into dough.
You can add food colouring to your mix but I always use acrylic paint once they're dry to decorate them so I haven't bothered colouring the dough.
Making the decorations is SO simple, I use cookie cutters and a plastic knife. Don't forget to poke a little hole in them before they harden so you can threat them with ribbon or whatever you want to use to hang them from your tree.
You can let them air dry, or put them in the oven at about 180-200 until they're hard. If they start browning before they're hard, just put foil over the top :)
(I also read somewhere that you can do a couple at a time for 2-3 minutes in the microwave, but mine started puffing up, fine for the plain circles but not so good if your design is a bit more intricate!)
As you can see they're really fun to make, Seren kept giggling about how messy it was!
Scruff ate some, I wouldn't advise it. It tastes minging!
I'm letting ours dry/harden over night so hopefully I'll be able to share the finish product soon!
Seren said it was very hard work and insisted she needed a nap afterwards. We ended up having a dance instead though!
Happy decorating!
